Bushwick Community High School Grading Policies
Report Card Grades
Grades for marking periods one, two and three will reflect the student’s raw score(earned grade). The final report card grade (marking period four) is the average of the 3 marking period grades. The marking period four grade is the course final grade that will appear on a student’s transcript. The lowest mark that will appear on a student’s marking period four grade is a 55. A final course grade of 65 is the lowest passing score. Grades above 65 are entered in one-point increments. A student’s Regents score cannot be more than 33 percent of a student’s final grade for the course.
The school’s grading categories are as follows:
Classwork: 40%
Classwork is defined as in-class work that the students do within a single or multiple periods. At BCHS this consists of the work that students are producing during the independent practice portion of the lesson.
Unit Tests/Interim Assessments/Quizzes: 30%
These are the culmination of an entire unit of work and involve both short answer multiple choice questions and longer, written responses. There is a minimum of three assessments per marking period.
Participation: 30%
Classroom participation includes overall classroom engagement, including but not limited to, completing the do now, exit ticket and engaging in discussion, and other instructional tasks.
School-Wide Policy on Make-Up Work
Assignments are due on the date set by the classroom teacher. Students are encouraged to make up work as a way to improve their understanding of the content and to help them improve their final grade.
The make-up work policy is as follows for the earned grade per late assignment:
First day late after deadline: 10% deduction
Second day late after deadline: 15% deduction
Third day late after deadline: 20% deduction
Assignments submitted after the third day of the assignment deadline, will receive a maximum grade of 55.
